Laboratory Medicine
Brief overview: Laboratory medicine is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of fluids such as blood, urine, stool, peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, ascitic fluid and other body fluids by using the tools of chemistry and hematology. This department is responsible for daily routine investigation and few special investigations for all adult and pediatric cancer patients.
Activities:

Collection of blood, urine, stool and other body fluids from outdoor, indoor and ICU patients.

Hematological tests- complete blood count with ESR, deferential counts and blood indices.

Peripheral blood film examination.

Biochemical tests-liver function tests, kidney function tests, lipid profile, blood sugar and uric acid etc

Serum Electrolytes analysis

Urine Routine and microscopic examination

Stool Routine and microscopic examination

Training and teaching of medical technologists

Active participation in research and quality improvement activities, conferences, academic session and slide discussion

Quality control of the reagent and calibration of equipment done regularly.
